A landmark Melrose home will become a creative showcase this week from Thursday, May 19, through Sunday, May 22, for the work of Bronx photographers, musicians and visual artists during the “from the Bronx” Pop-Up Shop Museum and Cultural Showcase.
Among the exhibits on display will be Bronx photography from the 1970s and 1980s by photojournalists Michael Kamber, Ricky Flores, and David Gonzalez. Additionally, works from Bronx landscape painter Daniel Hauben, Mural Kings TATS Cru and Bronx sculptor Sean Paul Gallegos will be featured, as will an exhibit by the Bronx County Historical Society, which will highlight the history of the Melrose area.
The four day event schedule will also include performances by various Bronx-based musical acts, feature Bronx based clothing companies and artisan crafts, and the “Taste of Melrose” food tasting on Saturday, May 21, 2011, which will feature food samples from classic and up and coming area restaurants.
he event, hosted by Mainland Media, a local business dedicated to fostering Bronx pride through the arts, aims to celebrate the history of the Melrose community and focus attention on the borough’s cultural heritage. In addition to Mainland Media, the event’s co-sponsors are the Jonas Bronck’s Beer Co. and Designer Up, Inc a Bronx-based custom design company.
