A partnership between the state and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, that helps high school graduates pay for college, will hold events in the Bronx in January and February to acquaint students with the program.
College applicants will receive help navigating the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA from program volunteers. They and their families can get hands-on assistance filing their application and getting answers to questions about their educational options.
In addition, attendees to the events can enter a drawing to win $500 for college. Five winners will be selected at each College Goal NY event site.
A list of College Goal NY events, along with registration information and tips for completing the FAFSA, can be found at the CollegeGoalNY.org website.
Volunteers help run the nationwide program, which focuses on helping low-income, first-generation families complete the application.
The next Bronx session is scheduled for February 3 at Lehman High School, 3000 Tremont Avenue, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
