Brook Park has been home for egg-laying hens since 2011. Mott Haven families can learn all about how chickens lay eggs by coming to the community garden at the corner of Brook Avenue and 141st St. and taking part in the program.
The project was launched by non-profit group Just Food in 2007 as part of its City Farms initiative. The group builds chicken coops across the city to help bring residents closer to the food production process. The fresh food advocates hope the project will also help fight obesity rates and other health problems by acquainting families with healthier eating habits.
