24-hour event celebrates life, work of Mexican author

The legacy of a mid-20th century Mexican writer revered in Spanish-speaking countries but little known everywhere else, was celebrated in a Mott Haven gallery last week, with a 24-hour marathon event that included readings, visual arts and theater.

Local waterfront gets failing grades

A new scorecard unveiled by a coalition of environmental groups this week rates Mott Haven’s riverfront among New York City’s worst in all three categories measured to gauge the health and vibrancy of 39 waterfront neighborhoods.
