Smiles abounded among children and adults alike as the young students came to the tables and racks to pick out their new winter jackets.
Located at 468 E. 140th Street in Mott Haven, P.S. 179 was the last stop of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association’s annual coat drive. The school received more than 250 coats for all of their 3-K through fifth grade students. GNYADA donated 80,000 coats throughout the New York counties.

Before speaking to the 3-K and first-graders of P.S. 179, Oliver Brodlieb, chairman of GNYADA, told the Mott Haven Herald, “It’s a great cause to provide coats for those that need them. Brodlieb spoke to the patiently waiting children of the generous endeavor and said, “It takes a village, or in this case, a borough.”

President of GNYADA, Mark Schienberg, helps a young student pick out a coat from the bunch in the gymnasium of P.S. 179. GNYADA raised $100,000 for this year’s drive and partnered with East Side House Settlement to help allocate the coats to children in need throughout 30 different schools and charities.
