Council Member Salamanca announced new brain tumor detection device to be completed by end of the year
After delays caused by the pandemic, the $884,000 renovation of Lincoln Hospital is now complete and ready for patients.
The renovations include a new digital radiology suite, which will lead to faster diagnoses and improved patient experience in the emergency department, according to a news release from Council Member Rafael Salamanca’s office.
Dina Carter, the chief experience officer at Lincoln Hospital, said that before the renovations, many patients expressed anxiety about going inside the old radiology machine. It would take up to 20 minutes and some expressed claustrophobia. Carter said the new renovations help by reducing the time.
“What the new radiology machine has done for us is actually help that anxiety by having less time – to within five to ten minutes,” Carter said. “You can be in and out.”
Salamanca, who allocated the funds for the renovation, announced a second upcoming renovation at the official unveiling of the radiology suite on Feb. 16. Salamanca said he’s secured $375,000 of capital funding for Fiscal Year 2023 which will be used for a StealthStation S8 Brain Tumor detection system.
The device will provide “advanced visualization imaging” to allow quicker brain tumor detections as well as a “digital navigation tool” for neurosurgery procedures, according to a news release.
The installation is expected to be complete by the end of 2022.
