An 18-year-old Bronx man was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for killing a 16-year-old girl in April 2022, while she was walking home from school.
In August, the shooter, Jeremiah Ryan, pled guilty to second-degree murder for gunning down Angellyh Yambo with a ghost gun, while shooting at two men he had been in an argument with. Along with Yambo, two 17 year olds uninvolved in the dispute were shot while walking from school, but they survived.
Bronx DA Darcel Clark announced today that a Bronx man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree Murder in the fatal shooting of Angellyh Yambo, 16, an innocent bystander.
“Since Angellyh’s death, her family members have channeled their grief into action by starting a foundation to honor her memory, said the Bronx DA Darcel Clark. In addition, the surviving family members have “met with elected officials and supported legislation targeting ghost guns and have attended multiple anti-violence events” hosted by the district attorney’s office.
The shooting took place on the afternoon of April 8, 2022, in front 510 East 156th Street. Ryan fired at least six shots, one of which struck Yambo in her upper back, piercing her lung and pulmonary artery.
One of the surviving teens was shot in the left leg, and the other in the buttocks. Ryan ran away, but the police caught and arrested him later that day.
