Homicide
A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death when he intervened in a domestic dispute in front of 381 East 151st Street around 6 a.m. on Oct. 21, police said. The victim was stabbed twice in the stomach after he saw Miguel Flores, 37, pull a large hunting knife on an unidentified woman and tried to break up the scrum, police said. The victim managed to pry the knife away from Flores, and then attempted to seek medical attention before collapsing to the ground. According to police, Flores then smashed a beer bottle on the victim, ran east on 151st towards Morris Avenue and then reversed direction, running back past the crime scene. Police said that Flores was chased and held down by witnesses until their arrival. The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:35 a.m. Flores was charged with second-degree murder and remanded into custody without bail.
Armed robbery
Two men burst in and robbed an elderly woman at gunpoint at her home on East 148th Street near St. Ann’s Avenue around 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, police said. The suspects, wearing masks, came in through an open door, displayed a black firearm and verbally threatened the 83-year-old woman before making off with $2600 in jewelry and a cellphone, police said. No arrests have been made.
Police arrested a man on robbery, larceny, and weapon charges after he held up a deli at 2628 Third Avenue on Oct. 15, authorities said. Jose Acevedo, 29, came in around noon, pulled out a black handgun, demanded the owner empty the register, and made off with $500 in cash, authorities said. Detectives arrested Acevedo around 8 p.m. the same day. Acevedo pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $7,000 at his arraignment on Oct. 16, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
Embezzlement
Police arrested a 32-year-old employee of a mental health facility on Oct. 24 after he allegedly stole $12,000, police said. Earlier this month, a co-worker accused the man of taking money orders from the facility at 402 East 156th St. and cashing them in his name.
Stalking
A 16-year-old male was arrested and charged with stalking and attempted grand larceny around noon on Oct. 15, police said. The arrest was made after a 15-year-old Samuel Gompers High School student came to police claiming the suspect had been following him for a month, demanding $200 and threatening violence, police said.
Bag theft
An 32-year-old delivery man was jumped in the stairwell of the Mitchell Houses at 225 Willis Avenue around 8 p.m. on Oct. 19, police said. Police arrested Thernell Smith, 44, and charged him with larceny, assault, and resisting arrest. Smith approached with two other accomplices, and punched the victim in the face, police said. Smith grabbed a bag containing $180 and a cellphone before being arrested shortly after, police said. According to the DA, Smith is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond after his arraignment on Oct. 19. The victim was taken to Lincoln hospital and treated for undisclosed injuries.
Purse snatchings
A 51-year-old woman was roughed up in a purse-snatching on Browne Place and East 136th Street around 8 p.m. on Oct. 15, police said. A man approached the victim from behind, and when she wouldn’t let go of her purse, dragged her across the sidewalk, causing cuts to her right elbow and shoulder, police said. The suspect made off with a cell phone, a driver’s license and two credit cards.
Another street robbery occurred when a man violently robbed an 83-year-old woman outside 205 Brook Avenue around 2 p.m. on Oct. 20th, police said. The 25-year-old suspect grabbed the victim’s purse from behind, causing her to fall and sustain bruises and scratches to the left side of her face, police said. According to police, the suspect made off with the purse and $150 in cash.
A few blocks down, a 21-year-old woman suffered a similar fate. Her purse was snatched by a 29-year-old man at Bruckner Boulevard and East 135th Street around 8:50 p.m. on Oct. 16, police said. According to police, the victim was on her way home when the suspect snuck up behind her and grabbed her purse. When the victim tried to resist, the suspect kicked her in the stomach and fled with the purse, containing a passport, a debit card, and a cellphone, police said. The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital and treated for undisclosed injuries.
According to police, 51-year-old woman was robbed at Oak Terrace and Crimmins Avenue at 5:47 p.m. on Oct. 18. While the victim was dragged and surrendered her purse, she sustained no injuries, police said.
Backpacks taken
A male and female duo mugged a 20-year-old woman outside 137 Alexander Avenue around 10 p.m. on Oct. 14, police said. The victim was walking home when the suspects snuck up and grabbed her backpack, authorities said. The suspects unsuccessfully tried to rip the chain off her neck, then fled, nabbing $60 and the bag.
A 32-year-old man was mugged outside 585 Prospect Avenue around 10 a.m. on Oct. 15, police said. The victim was approached by two men who started to fight with the victim, and made off with his backpack, which contained a sweater and a pair of headphones, police said. The victim suffered bruises over his right eye and both knees.
Cellphone robberies
Three suspects mugged a 14-year-old boy, taking his had his sneakers and iPhone at 834 St. Ann’s Ave. around 6 p.m. on Oct. 19, police said. Surveillance video from the scene showed the victim approached by two men and another unidentified suspect, who flashed a small handgun before taking his belongings and fleeing.
A 17-year-old girl had her iPhone snatched at 147th Street and St. Ann’s Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, police said. The suspect, dressed in a red hoodie and blue jeans, bumped into the victim from behind, grabbed the phone out of her right hand and fled, authorities said.
Another 14-year-old boy had his iPhone stolen at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Westchester Avenue around 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, police said. According to police, the victim was walking on the street with the phone in his hands when the suspect ran past him, grabbed the phone, and ran off.
The Mitchel Houses at 188 Lincoln Avenue was the site of another iPhone theft, this time from a 19-year-old girl around 6 p.m. on Oct. 17, police said. A male suspect ran past the victim, grabbed the phone, and ran towards another section of Mitchel Houses at 303 East 135th Street, police said.
Subway crime
A 44-year-old had her 22-inch gold chain snatched on a downtown 6 train around 10 a.m. on Oct. 18, police said. The victim was coming from Parkchester Avenue when the a 38-year-old male suspect grabbed her chain off her neck at the 138th/3rd Avenue stop and hopped off as the doors closed, police said.
Another victim of a 6 train snatch and dash was a 57-year-old woman at the Brook Avenue station on Oct. 17 at around 6 p.m. According to police, the victim boarded the train at Buhre Avenue, where she spotted the suspect. At the Brook Avenue stop, the suspect grabbed her chain and ran off as the doors closed. The victim continued riding to 96th street and Lexington Avenue, police said. The chain was gold with a white medallion cross, according to the police report.
Attempted car theft
An ill-advised attempt to steal a blue Toyota Highlander resulted in a 35-year-old man’s arrest, police said. The victim was closing up his business at 825 Westchester Avenue around 9 p.m. on October 21st, and had his car running outside when the suspect jumped in and took off. He was chased by a witness until he ditched the car at 160th and Union Avenue and fled on foot. The witness caught him and subdued him until police arrived. The DA’s office dropped all charges, with no explanation.
