Shooting
A nighttime shooting on Park Avenue was captured on the security cameras of a nearby strip club, police said. Just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 23, a 29-year-old man walking past Sin City was shot twice in the leg from behind, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office. Trevor Reid, 24, and Abe Clark, 19, have been arrested on charges of attempted murder and assault. According to the DA’s office, footage from Sin City’s security camera shows Reid firing the gun. The victim said he saw Clark throw the gun into a nearby vacant lot. Reid pleaded not guilty and is being held on $75,000 bail; Clark also pleaded not guilty and is being held on $3,500 bail.
Stabbing
Daniel Rodriguez, 55, is accused of slashing the face of a 27-year-old man outside a Wales Avenue grocery, police said. According to the DA’s office, Rodriguez allegedly cut up the face and hand of the 27-year-old victim with a box cutter at about 10:30 pm on Dec. 23. The victim received 28 stitches at Lincoln Hospital. Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to charges of felony assault and his bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
Pot bust
Two police officers and a dog chased down a 21-year-old man suspected of showing off bags of marijuana, police said. According to the Bronx DA’s office, Tjon Macoll was standing at 3rd Avenue and East 144th Street with four clear bags of the substance at about 7:30 pm on Dec. 18. When police appeared, Macoll allegedly ran, dropping three bags along the way. He was brought down by the police dog and flailed during the arrest, cutting an officer’s left hand, police said. Macoll has pleaded not guilty to charges of marijuana possession and resisting arrest, and was released on his own recognizance.
Occupational hazard
An employee of a Chinese restaurant was robbed at gunpoint, police said. The 25-year-old victim had just made a delivery at an apartment in Mill Brook Houses at about 3 p.m. on Dec. 22 when three men surrounded him. One pointed a gun at his chest while the others went through his pockets, lifting his iPhone 4 and $70 cash. No arrests have been made.
Subway snatchings
Thieves stole identification from A 46-year-old man during a midday subway ride on Dec. 20, police said. The man was getting off the 6-train from Harlem to Cypress Avenue at about 1:50 pm when he felt a nudge in his front right pants pocket, then noticed his wallet had been stolen. It contained the victim’s birth certificate, Social Security card, and ID.
A high school student had his 5th-generation iPod Touch lifted in the subway, police said. The 16-year-old resident of Hull Avenue was waiting for the 2 train at East 152nd Street subway station at about 1:40 pm on Dec. 19 when a man on the platform pulled out a knife and said, “Give me your iPod or I’ll stab you,” according to police. Once he got the iPod, the assailant fled the station. Police are searching for the suspect.
Crooks stole another passenger’s iPhone nearby, according to police. A 38-year-old man took the 5-train south from 174th Street just after noon on Dec. 21. At Jackson Avenue, another man grabbed his iPhone and ran away through the station. No arrests have been made.
Phone thefts
Two 17-year-old men, are accused of threatening a Mott Haven teenager with a gun and stealing his phone. According to the Bronx District Attorney’s office, the pair approached the 17-year-old victim on a commercial stretch of East 138th Street at 3:50 pm December 20. One allegedly kept his hands in his pockets and told the victim that he had a gun and to hand over his iPhone, while the other acted as backup, according to the criminal complaint. Both pleaded not guilty.
A UPS employee is accused of stealing phones over three months to repay a personal debt, according to the DA’s office. In the early morning of December 17, the UPS security supervisor found Robert Jones, 22, moving 17 iPhones and 2 Samsung Galaxy phones from their packaging into the back seat of his car. Jones confessed to the supervisor that he had been stealing phones for months and selling them to repay his brother $12,000 he owed him, according to the complaint. Jones pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance.
Three crooks ganged up on a 17-year-old coming home from school and stole his iPhone, police said. The teen was walking along Concord Avenue at East 150th Street at about 3:30 pm on Dec. 18 when three men surrounded him and demanded his cell phone. One of the three men punched the teen while another held him in place. Police are searching for the suspects.
Two electronic devices were stolen from A HUB-area electronics store that displays Samsung Galaxy products, police said. The store’s manager reported a Galaxy III and a Galaxy Note II missing at about 2 p.m. on Dec. 17. According to police, both gadgets were locked up by their back covers, but the crook took the items and left the covers. No arrests have been made.
A Melrose Houses resident was accosted and robbed of his medication, police said. The victim, a 55-year-old man, was returning from a pharmacy along East 156th Street at about 7:45 pm on Dec. 18, when two men jumped out of a minivan that had stopped. One of the men pistol-whipped the victim and grabbed the bag, which contained prescription hydrocodone, oxycontin and blood-pressure medication, police said. No arrests have been made.
Two men robbed a 45-year-old woman of her social security checks in November, police said. The woman was waiting at a check-cashing outlet on East 138th Street and Willis Avenue at 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 when two men pushed her into a wall and took two checks, totaling $1,368. The woman said the theft so unnerved her, she was afraid to leave her house afterwards and didn’t report it until nearly a month later, according to police. No arrests have been made.
A teenager stole another’s cell phone in the stairwell of a Mitchel Houses building, police said. A 17-year-old woman was sitting in her stairwell and using her phone at about 3:30 pm on Dec. 22 when a 15-year-old boy demanded her cell phone. When she refused, the crook snatched her phone and ran away. Police are searching for the suspect.
Cash snatchings
A woman buying fast food on 3rd Avenue had the money snatched out of her hand, police said. The 21-year-old victim was making a purchase with $34 at about 4:30 pm on Dec. 19 when a group of teenage boys grabbed the money from her right hand and ran. Police are searching for the thieves.
Thieves ripped a purse off the shoulder of a 22-year-old woman in Mott Haven as she was entering her building, police said. According to the DA’s office, the victim was coming home at about 7:30 pm on Dec. 19 when a teenage boy and girl ran up behind her and yanked her denim purse repeatedly until she fell. A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with robbery. He pleaded not guilty. Police are searching for the second suspect.
Wrong address, big ripoff
After waiting several months for a check in the amount of $21,000 she was owed by the U.S. Treasury, a 33-year-old Mott Haven woman called the Treasury Department and found the check had been mailed to the wrong address and was cashed by an unknown person. Investigations are ongoing.
Car break in
A 48-year-old woman’s parked car was robbed at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 21, police said. The woman had parked the car at 3rd Avenue and East 155th Street for about half an hour, then returned to find her pocket book, car registration, and three children’s toys stolen. No arrests have been made.
Home burglaries
A Mott Haven man found his Grand Concourse apartment burgled the evening of Dec. 17, police said. The 30-year-old victim returned home that evening to find the door open and $1,300 worth of goods stolen, including a gold necklace, Xbox, iPod touch and cell phone. No arrests have been made.
A Mott Haven woman’s apartment was burgled the afternoon of Dec. 22, police said. The 27-year-old victim returned to her Brook Ave. apartment at about 3 p.m. to find the door forced open and a Toshiba laptop, PlayStation 3 and 42” flat screen missing. No arrests have been made.
A Mott Haven man’s house was broken into at about noon on Dec. 20, police said. The 31-year-old victim came home to find his door forced open and his birth certificate, state ID and Social Security card missing, along with a necklace and bracelet. No arrests have been made.
Car thefts
A red Honda Civic was stolen from its parking spot on East 141st Street and St. Ann’s Avenue, police said. The owner parked the car the night of Dec. 16 and returned the following day to find it missing. No arrests have been made.
A black Honda Accord was stolen from a Port Morris parking lot, police said. The owner parked the car in the Canal Place lot on the afternoon of Dec. 18 and returned less than two hours later to find it was gone. No arrests have been made.
A Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from East 151st Street and Concord Avenue the night of Dec. 18, police said. The owner parked the bike late at night and returned the following day to find it stolen. Police are searching for a suspect.
A gray Ford Focus was stolen from its parking spot on East 138th Street and Grand Concourse during the past two weeks, police said. The owner parked the car on Nov. 27, left it for about two weeks, then returned to find it was missing, according to police. No arrests have been made.
