Robberies:
POLICE ARRESTED a 27-year-old man after he allegedly robbed another man in front of 2715 3rd Ave. at 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 17. Edwin Ortega flashed what the victim thought was a gun before stealing his Samsung Galaxy phone and his wallet and credit cards, police said. According to the report, Ortega then forced the victim to walk down the street with him for about 15 minutes, threatened to kill him several times along the way and then left him. When Ortega was arrested shortly afterwards, police said they found no weapon. They returned the property to the victim. Ortega pleaded not guilty on Sept. 19 to charges of robbery and kidnapping. Bail was set at $75,000, and his next court appearance is Oct. 25.
POLICE ARRESTED a 14-year old boy who, they said, snatched a gold necklace from a 36 year-old woman’s neck on the corner of Brook Avenue and East 138th Street at 12:48 p.m. on Sept. 18. The suspect grabbed the woman’s arm from behind then reached up to her neck and pulled the chain off, according to the police. The suspect was arrested minutes after the incident and a few blocks away when the victim pointed him out to police, according to the police report.
A THIEF robbed a teenager of two cell phones and his wallet at 8 a.m. on Sept. 16 at the corner of 158th Street and Forest Avenue, police said. The robber approached the 17-year-old boy and told him to empty his pockets, place the contents on the floor and walk away. The suspect, also a male, fled, and no arrest has been made.
AT ABOUT 9:35 a.m. on Sept. 19, a thief ordered a 21 year-old man to hand over his phone, then grabbed a Samsung Galaxy from the victim’s hand at 520 E. 137th St. The suspect ran away, and no arrest has been made.
A 31-YEAR-OLD MAN was punched repeatedly in the face and stomach when two suspects approached him and tried to take his cellphone about 10 a.m. on Sept. 22 near the Hub. The suspects did not get the phone and one suspect, Alberto Borges, 22, was arrested a few hours later just blocks away at 424 E. 148th St., according to the police and the Bronx DA’s office.
Borges pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted robbery and assault. He was scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 27.
The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical treatment, according to police.
The thief wore red
A 23 YEAR-OLD WOMAN was walking on East 137th Street and St. Ann’s Avenue at about 3 p.m. on Sept. 15 when a man in a red jacket approached her from behind and ripped a necklace off her neck. A half hour later and three blocks away, another woman, 24, reported that a man wearing red outerwear approached her from behind and snatched her white iPhone out of her hand. Police would not comment on whether the two crimes are connected. No arrest has been made.
Just before dawn on the morning of Sept. 22, two men approached a 21-year-old woman near 487 Brook Ave. and took her cellphone from her back pocket. The victim described one of the men as wearing red outerwear. Police arrested Jacob Ramirez, 18, an hour later a few blocks from the scene. Ramirez was arraigned later that day and charged with two counts of larceny and one count of criminal possession of stolen property. He pleaded not guilty, posted $1,500 bail and was released. His next court appearance is Sept. 27.
