Robbery with violence
Two men were robbed after one lent his phone to a stranger at 1:27 a.m. on Oct.6. According to police, while walking near Willis Avenue and East 148th Street a man approached the two victims and asked to use one of their cellphones. After one handed over his phone the ungrateful crook pulled out a gravity knife and said, “It’s over for you.” He then snatched $10 out of the second victim’s hand and fled on foot. Police arrested James Dunmeyer, 30, later that day. He has been charged with robbery in the first and second degree, grand larceny, petit larceny, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Bronx District Attorney . Dunmeyer was arraigned on Oct. 8 and bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. Dunmeyer failed to post bail and remains in jail. His next court appearance has been set for Nov. 12.
A 61 year-old man was beaten and robbed by a group of five men at 2:20 a.m. on October 6. While walking near Jackson Avenue and East 140th Street. the victim was stuck over the head with an unidentified solid object and fell to the ground. The group began punching and kicking the man until he lost consciousness, police said. The victim woke up in the hospital to find $16 missing from his pocket. Police arrested Edward Binyard, 21, on Oct. 10 and charged him with attempted gang assault in the first degree, three counts of robbery, two counts of assault, attempted assault, grand larceny, petit larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and harassment. Binyard was arraigned on Oct. 11 and entered a plea of not guilty, according to the Bronx District Attorney . Bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond, and a temporary order of protection was issued. Binyard reappeared in court on Oct. 16 and pled guilty to one count of assault. All other charges were dismissed and Binyard remains in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for December 4, according to the DA.
Two men were robbed at gunpoint at 3:51 a.m. on Oct. 7. Police said two thieves emerged from a car near the corner of Park Avenue and East 138th Street and approached the victims. One pointed a silver handgun at one victim’s chest and shouted, “Blood you know what this is, give up everything you got!” The man surrendered his Iphone. The gunman then turned on the next victim and shouted, “What does this bitch have?” according to police. After taking another cellphone, the robber, unsatisfied, patted the second victim down and removed his wallet. A gunshot was reportedly fired but neither victim was injured, police said. Police arrested Antoine C. Ross and Trevor Robinson later that day. Each has been charged with robbery in the first, second, and third degrees, criminal use of a firearm, four counts of criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Arresting officers also found several bags of marijuana on Ross, according to police and additional charges are expected according to the Bronx District Attorney . The defendants were arraigned later that day and pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond, but the two failed to post bail and remain in custody. Robinson’s next court date has been set for Oct. 22 and Ross’s is set for Nov. 1.
A police officer interrupted an attempted robbery on the corner of Brook Avenue and East 140th Street at 1:10 a.m. on Oct. 10. According to police, two men accosted a 36 year-old man. One grabbed the victim by the shirt, slammed him against a wall and said, “Give me everything you got,” and then began rifling through his pockets while the other held the victim’s arm. A passing police officer ended the confrontation and arrested Jose Cruz, 31. The other mugger fled on foot and remains at large, police said. Cruz was arraigned on Oct.14 and charged with two counts of attempted robbery, attempted grand larceny and attempted petit larceny. Bail was set at $75,000 bond or $50,000 cash. Cruz failed to post bail and remains in custody, according to the Bronx District Attorney. Cruz’s next court date was set for Oct.23.
A 19-year-old women was choked before she was robbed in front of an apartment building on Tinton Avenue near East 149th Street at 2:20 a.m. on Oct. 12, according to police. A man approached the victim and demanded her cellphone. When she refused, the man grabbed her by the throat with one hand while squeezing the cell phone out of her hand with the other, police said. Police arrested James Chavez, 18, later that day, and he was arraigned shortly after his arrest. According to the DA, Chavez was charged with robbery in the third degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, petit larceny, criminal possession of property and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. A temporary order of protection was issued and Chavez was released on his own recognizance. His next court date was set for Dec. 2.
Assaults charged
According to police, a teen was attacked while playing basketball at the Horizon Juvenile Facility on Brook Avenue around 1 p.m. on Oct. 7. Three teens rushed onto the court and began beating the victim, police said. The three teens were arrested. The victim sustained injuries to his face and upper body and was taken to Lincoln Hospital for treatment.
A 47 year-old man was stabbed in the back three times after an early morning argument escalated out of control. At 6 a.m. on Oct. 9, a man and a woman began arguing near Morris Avenue and East 153rd St., police said. They said the woman produced a knife and stabbed the man three times. Police arrested Clarissa Figueroa on Oct. 15. Figueroa was arraigned the next day and charged with three counts of assault, two counts of menacing, harassment, and criminal possession of a weapon, said the Bronx District Attorney. Figueroa pleaded not guilty and she was released on her own recognizance. Her next court appearance is set for Nov. 20.
Saying, “You hit me,” a 76 year-old man attacked a uniformed paramedic at the scene of an accident at 3 p.m. on Oct. 10 in front of Lincoln Hospital, according to police. The elderly man confronted the paramedic and put him in a chokehold before pushing him to the ground, police said. Police arrested James Warren later that day and charged him with two counts of assault, harassment in the second degree, and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. He was arraigned on Oct. 11 and released on his own recognizance, according to the DA. Warren is set to appear in court on Dec. 4.
A man unleashed his pit-bull on a 28 year-old man before slugging him in the arm with a metal baseball bat, according to police. At 5 p.m. on Oct. 12 in front of an apartment complex on East 140th Street and Brook Avenue, a man approached the victim with a leashed pit-bull and a bat in hand. The man asked the victim, “What the f— are you looking at?” He and his dog then attacked the victim before fleeing on foot, police said. Police arrested Jonathon Ortiz, 17, later that day. He was arraigned on Oct. 13 and charged with two counts two assault, two counts of attempted assault and harassment, according to the DA. His bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond, and he remains in jail. His next court appearance is set for October 18.
Domestic violence
A 35-year-old man punched his girlfriend—the mother of his child–in the face and stabbed her with a broken beer bottle during a quarrel at 4a.m. in front of 281 East 143rd St. on Oct. 13. Police arrested Kenneth Brown later that day. He was arraigned on Oct. 13 and charged with assault in the third degree, harassment, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the DA. Brown pleaded not guilty and he was released on his own recognizance. His is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19.
Police also made arrests in three other cases of domestic violence. Police arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly choked his 21-year-old girlfriend at 12 a.m. on Oct. 9 at 681 Courtland Ave. An 18-year-old man who police said assaulted his mother was arrested on the night of Oct. 7. The son hit his mother in the head with a golf club, according to police, who said he then snatched a pouch containing his mother’s cellphone and $60. A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly choked a woman at 643 Caldwell Ave. at 7 a.m. on Oct. 10, police said. In each case legal action was terminated in favor of the accused and all records of the arrest were sealed, according to the district attorney’s office.
