Armed robbery foiled
An armed man tried to rob a cab driver but was busted after the driver pulled over and locked the doors, police said. Simmon Severino was in the backseat of the taxi at the corner of St. Ann’s Avenue and East 137th Street about 5 a.m. on Oct 19 when he pulled a .380 semi-automatic pistol and demanded the driver’s money, police said. “If you don’t go over to 139th Street, I am going to kill you,” Severino said, according to the police report. The driver pulled the car over, locked the doors and flagged down a police officer. Severino struggled and injured the officer’s wrist, but was subdued by numerous officers, police said. He was charged with second-degree assault, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, along with eight lesser charges. Severino pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned on Oct. 20. Bail was set at $75,000, according to the DA’s office.

Police charged 21-year-old Dontay Mabry with possession of marijuana, as well as with assault and robbery for a separate crime a week earlier. According to the district attorney, police found 10 small bags of marijuana in Mabry’s underwear on Oct. 17 outside 337 E.146th St. Five days earlier, Mabry allegedly stole a wallet, cash and a Galaxy cell phone from a 37-year-old man, police said. Mabry and Diquinn Lacend, who was also arrested, struck the vicitm with a hard object, punched him in the face and then stole his money, according to the DA. A third alleged thief accompanied Mabry and Lacend, but police haven’t found him. Police said the victim had bruises to his head and face, but did not go to the hospital. Mabry was hit with six felony counts and three misdemeanors. He pleaded not guilty and was released without bail at his last court hearing on Oct. 23. The case was adjourned to Nov. 22.
Domestic violence
A 38-year-old man was being held on $10,000 bail after he chased down his ex-girlfriend and another man in her apartment in violation of an order of protection, police said. Jose Rivera, 38, entered the apartment at 2417 Third Ave. about 6 a.m. on Oct. 19. The man he attacked was bruised and also complained about forearm pain, according to the DA’s office. Rivera allegedly kicked his ex-girlfriend several times, threw her to the ground and sprayed her hands with red spray paint. The victim reported bruises on her right forearm. Rivera pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned on Oct. 20.
Another man choked his girlfriend in front of their daughter during a fight at 480 Concord Ave. about 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 18, authorities said. Nixon Castillo, 18, also pulled his girlfriend’s hair and spit on her face, according police and the DA’s office. The victim had neck and forearm bruises, according to police. As he left the apartment, Castillo, who also goes by the name Alvarez, kicked the front door, cracking its frame, police said. Castillo pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned on October 16.
TV tantrum
Police arrested a man for allegedly throwing a chair at a flatscreen TV inside the Burger King on 161st Street near Yankee Stadium around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. Omar Campbell, 39, was charged with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, according to the DA’s office. He pled not guilty on Oct. 20 and was released on $1 bail. There was no word on what was showing on the TV.
Assaults
A 29-year-old man was arrested for throwing a stone at another man at Third Avenue near 141st Street about 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 14, police said. The victim, 34, was not seriously harmed, but the stone cut a toe, police said. Julio Sanchez, 29, was charged with assault, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, according to the DA’s office. Sanchez was arraigned on Oct. 15, and entered a not guilty plea, the DA’s office said.
A man claimed a woman attempted to cut him with scissors at 759 E. 138th St. about 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 14, according to police. The man was not injured in the assault. Legal action was terminated in favor of the accused and all records of the arrest were sealed, according to the district attorney’s office.
A man assaulted another man with an unidentified object on Oct. 17. Jason Sierra, 33, attacked a 50-year-old man at 165 St. Ann’s Ave. about 7:40 p.m, according to police. Sierra entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment on Oct. 18. Bail was set at $1,500, according to the DA’s office.
A man slashed another man in the chest with a box cutter about 4:15 p.m. at the corner of East151st Street and Cortland Avenue on Oct. 20. The victim, 28, received stitches at a local hospital, according to police. Miguel Delacruz, 24, was charged with assault, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, according to the DA’s office. Delacruz was arraigned on October 21 and pled not guilty.
Martin Agosto, 29, jumped on a man’s bed and attacked him with a steak knife, telling him, “If you are lying I will kill you,” according to police. The alleged assault occurred at 400 E. 158th St. at 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 18. The victim reported a five-inch laceration on the left side of his neck. Agosto was arraigned on October 21. He pled not guilty.
Robbery: cell phone, iPod, cash
A 20-year-old man punched a 40-year-old man in the face and stole his cell phone shortly before 5 p.m. Oct. 17 near the corner of Trinity and Westchester avenues, police said. The victim did not go to the hospital. Legal action was terminated in favor of the accused and all records of the arrest were sealed, according to the district attorney’s office.
Police arrested a 26-year-old man who threatened to kill another man over his iPod about 3:15 a.m. on Oct. 19 on Brook Ave., police said. The victim was surrounded by a group of four men, and one of them said, “Let me see your iPod. I am going to dead you on that,” according to the police report. The perpetrator then tried to grab the device, but the victim ducked a punch and fled, police said. Police arrested Troy Thurman, 26, who pled not guilty to nine charges, including attempted robbery and attempted assault on Oct. 20. Thurman’s bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
Police said a young man stole $40 from a 55-year-old man on Oct. 19 at 325 E. 143 St. Jarrell Coburn, 22, approached the victim at 2:40 a.m., reached into his right front pants pocket and stole the cash, police said. Coburn was charged with grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, according to the DA’s office. He pled not guilty at his arraignment on October 20, and bail was set at $750, according to the DA’s office.
