La Finca Del Sur hosted a day of family fun during its Fifth Annual Harvest and Halloween Hootenanny on a late October Saturday. Farm coordinator Nancy Ortiz-Surun said the country style party gave families an opportunity to get away from city life for a day.
“People describe the farm as an oasis right here in the South Bronx,” Ortiz-Surun said. “We like to celebrate Halloween with an old time sort of thing. Let’s get away from technology and lets have these nice experiences centered around agriculture, centered around a healthy lifestyle.”
Events held throughout the day included games and activities for children, food, prizes and a haunted house. Mott Haven resident Felix Ganez came out with his wife Tiana and their young son Mahery to enjoy a day at the farm.
“This is awesome,” said Ganez, who works as a photographer in Manhattan. “It’s great to escape from the city life.”
