Internet Nightmare
Police are investigating a reported rape in an apartment near East 138th Street and Brook Ave. at 9 p.m. on Dec. 11. After meeting a man on Facebook, a twelve-year-old Manhattanite traveled to Mott Haven to meet the man, where he is alleged to have raped her in his home. Officers were called to the hospital where she was treated. The suspect is about 20 years old. No arrests have been made.
Robberies
Hungry for a slice of pizza, a 14-year-old boy ran into a group of five boys his age itching for a fight. He was in a pizzeria on E. 148th Street at 11 a.m. on Dec 12 when one of the boys slapped the victim’s hat off his head as he left the store. Then, the first kid grabbed him by the sweater and dragged him into the middle of the street where the group punched and kicked him repeatedly, according to police. They stole $24 from the victim.
An 18-year-old woman was in the wrong place at the wrong time. As she walking near Jackson Ave. and E. 142nd St. around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, a man asked her for the time and then jammed his hand over her mouth and told her to shut up. The man, identified by police as Ricardo Lopez, 20, ripped her black Guess purse off her arm and ran away with the contents of her bag: her Passport, school ID, books, and $120 in cash. Lopez pleaded non guilty. Bail was set at $1,500 cash or $2,500 bond. His next court appearance is set for March 13 of next year.
A young man was robbed while waiting for the bus at Prospect Avenue and E. 149th St. at 12:35 a.m. on Dec. 13. “My boy over here has a ratchet. I’m going to have to take all your stuff,” the 15-year-old suspect allegedly told the victim, according to the Bronx DA’s office. His accomplice then pulled a gun from the front pocket of his hoodie and pointed it. They took his cellphone and Beats headphones from around his neck, as well as his CVS bag with his shoes inside it, a belt and a cellphone charger. The suspect pleaded not guilty and was held on $7,500 bail. He is set to appear in court on January 11.
A group of four men were arrested for beating up a 16-year-old boy, on East 138th Street at 7p.m. on Dec. 11. They punched him in the face and head, and stripped his black Marmot jacket from his back, said police. The DA’s office declined to prosecute.
After being approached from behind, a 15-year-old girl was thrown to the ground on 635 East 158th Street around 8 p.m. on Dec. 14, said police. Her wrist was scratched in the scuffle and her iPod Touch stolen. No arrests have been made.
Can’t Call Home Again – Stolen Phones
A 16-year-old boy allegedly stole some electronic goodies from a 13-year-old boy at East 138th Street and Third Avenue at 7:05 p.m. on Dec 13, according to police. The suspect made off with a set of DRE Beats headphones and Metro PCS Cool Pad cellphone. He pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $7,500 cash or $15,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for January 11.
A 16-year-old girl walking from Patterson Houses to the bus at 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 10 didn’t get far before she was robbed. While she was en route to the bus stop, a man grabbed her Samsung Galaxy S3 cell phone out of her hand, police said. When she tried to stop him, he punched her in the face. There have been no arrests.
An old model SUV pulled up in front of a 21-year-old man as he walked home at 2:10 a.m. on Dec. 10. Three people jumped out along St. Ann’s Avenue and East 146th Street and demanded money, said police. One waved a gun while the others took the victim’s THC cell phone and $5.00. There have been no arrests.
Two quick thieves grabbed a 40-year-old woman’s iPhone 4 from her hands as she rode on a northbound 6-train, said police. They ran out as the train entered the Cypress Avenue station at 11:44 p.m. on Dec. 10. No arrests have been made.
At the same 6-train station, a heavy-handed pickpocket tried to steal an HTC cellphone from a 36-year-old woman but failed – at first. When they both got off the train at Cypress Avenue at around 10:00 p.m. on Dec. 13, the suspect threw the woman against the wall and took the phone, said police.
Assault
A pre-teen scorched her friend with a hot hair curling iron inside an apartment at Mill Brook Houses around noon on Dec. 7, said police. The 12-year-old girl burned the 13-year-old boy’s left arm with the iron, then threw it at him, burning his right arm. The boy was treated for infected first-degree burns.
Early in the school day a 17-year-old girl got into a physical fight with a classmate in the New Life Charter School library on Dec. 13, according to the DA’s office. When her mother came to the library her daughter was punching the classmate, who was lying face-up on a table. Two teachers tried to break up the fight, but the girl and her mother turned their wrath on them, the DA’s office reported. Mother and daughter both pleaded not guilty and were released on their own recognizance and are set to appear in court on February 19.
Using a hammer as his weapon of choice, Johnny Edwards, 60, swung the tool at his friend’s head, opening up a gash that needed three stitches, said police. His friend, a 60-year-old man, was walking his girlfriend home when Edwards hit him in the hallway of Patterson Houses, where they both live, at 9 p.m. on Dec. 14. Edwards pleaded not guilty and released on his own recognizance. He is set to appear in court again on January 28.
Saul Alvarez, 21, attacked a 15-year-old girl in the hallway of her apartment on Union Avenue, putting her in a chokehold so she could hardly breathe, and touched her chest inappropriately, said police. Alvarez had a glass pipe in his pocket that had crack cocaine in it, according to the DA’s office. Alvarez pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $1,500 cash or bond. He was scheduled to appear today.
When an argument turned violent, Carmela Richard, 30, struck her 55-year-old boyfriend in the face multiple times with a broomstick in the apartment they share at East 143rd Street at 11:21 a.m. on Dec. 15, according to the DA’s office. Her boyfriend was hospitalized with internal bleeding, facial fractures, and a laceration to his left eyelid. Richard pleaded not guilty and is set to appear in court on February 6.
Grand Larceny
After enjoying lunch with a friend at a diner on East 149th Street, a 38-year-old woman realized $500 was missing from her bag. She checked the footage of a security camera on East 138th Street and found that her friend had sneakily reached into her bag multiple times as they walked and stolen the money around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 13, said police. The DA’s office has declined to prosecute.
A 28-year-old woman riding on the 6-train noticed that her bag was open as she approached the 149th Street station at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 13. Her purse had been taken from the backpack, along with lip balm, Dior Perfume, YSL lipstick and a white metal wallet, plus a credit card that was later used to buy metro credit cards, said police.
Burglary
A circular saw, hammer drill, vacuum, flashlight and grinder were stolen from a car after the lock was broken outside 838 Brook Ave. at noon on Dec. 15.
Two iMac computers were reported stolen from the fourth floor of P.S. 30 at 510 East 141st Street at midnight on Dec. 11. The building alarm went off at 12:30.
